According to the results of the first half of 2024, the national debt of Armenia reached 12 billion 157 million US dollars. Minister of Finance Vahe Hovhannisyan stated this during the debates on the state budget implementation report for the first half of 2024 at Monday’s meeting of the Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs of the National Assembly.

"Our indicators are manageable. It is noteworthy that the average repayment period has slightly decreased compared to the beginning of the year, reaching 7.1 years; and this, in the case when our target was seven to ten years," Hovhannisyan added.

This, as the finance minister noted, is due to Armenia’s policy of recent years. In particular, regarding the issuance of shorter-term government bonds, which was due to the increase in interest rates.

"Risks are manageable. The risks related to the exchange rate are manageable, as domestic debt ratio is consistently increasing and currently stands at 50.7 percent," the finance minister added.

Also, Hovhannisyan noted that Armenia’s debt burden will increase in the coming years due to debt repayment. In particular, at the beginning of next year, it is planned to make repayments on Eurobonds worth more than $300 million.
