The Israeli and Lebanese authorities have reached an agreement to extend the agreement on the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon until February 18, the White House noted in a statement it issued on Sunday.
“The arrangement between Lebanon and Israel, monitored by the United States, will continue to be in effect until February 18, 2025,” the statement reads.
“The Government of Lebanon, the Government of Israel, and the Government of the United States will also begin negotiations for the return of Lebanese prisoners captured after October 7, 2023,” the statement added.
The 60-day ceasefire agreement entered into force on Monday. Its terms stipulated that Israel would completely withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon by Monday.
