Armenians were violently killed in the territory of Turkey in 1915. It is a human tragedy and must be called genocide, said Rene Rouquet, MP from Socialist Party of France.

“It is an honor for the French parliament to complete the process launched 13 years ago when the document on the Armenian Genocide was unanimously adopted. Historical fact of the genocide is beyond doubt. To deny historical facts is to insult our national values,” he said speaking at the Thursday debate in French parliament.

Rouquet welcomed his compatriots of the Armenian origin. “You have done a lot for our country and I want to say we are with you,” Rouquet added.

French MPs are discussing the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial which supposes a year imprisonment and 45,000 euro fine for denial of the fact of genocide.
