ANKARA. – The Mayor of Ankara, Melih Gokcek, stated that, should the French National Assembly pass the bill that criminalizes the denial of the Armenian Genocide, they would erect, in response, a monument in front of the French Embassy in the Turkish capital.

Ankara’s mayor said they do not wish to enter into a pointless conflict with other countries, but, if necessary, they are prepared to take steps that would cause international resonance. He noted that if the French National Assembly passes the bill that criminalizes the denial of the Armenian Genocide, they would erect, opposite to the French Embassy in Ankara, a monument that depicts the French atrocities in Algeria, CNN Turk news agency reported.
