YEREVAN. – The quantity of Armenia’s national currency, the dram (AMD)—specifically cash dram—has sharply increased in the country’s financial market.

In line with the Central Bank’s (CB) statistics, this increase started on December 21, and as of December 27, CB emitted close to AMD 399 billion (approx. US$ 1 billion), in cash.

Ever since December 21, the cash amount increased by close to AMD 3 billion (approx. $7,825,479) every day, and this was close to AMD 6 billion (approx. $ 15,650,958) on December 26.

This increase in cash AMD is conditioned by the widespread payment of salaries, benefits, and bonuses towards late December. Also, the pre-New Year trade circulation sharply increases, and this requires additional emission of money.
