YEREVAN. - A number of celebrations dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Armenian army are planned to take place. As the MOD press secretary told the reporter of Armenian News-NEWS.am, a celebration and parade will take place in the Sports and Concert Complex after Karen Demirchyan on January 27.

On January 28 Armenian government members will visit the military pantheon Yerablur in order to pay tribute to the soldiers who died in the Karabakh war, liturgy will be served at the Holy See in St. Echmiadzin on January 29. A 10-day program is planned to be held at educational institutions in the form of lectures concerning the Armed Forces.

On January 28 in 1992 the Armenian Army was created. 1988-1992 are considered the years of its informal formation as the strained relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan caused the need to protect Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh. During those years volunteers protected Armenia and Karabakh. On September 1990 Armenia’s Supreme Council made a decision on special regime of Ministry of Internal affairs. On April 4, 1991, a Defense Committee was created by the Armenian government. On September 25, 2002, the day of Armenia’s National Army was recognized as a nonworking day by the Armenian National Assembly.
