YEREVAN.- Armenia and Kazakhstan have high level political relations, unfortunately unlike economic ones, said Kazakh Ambassador to Armenia Ayimdos Bozzhigitov.

According to him, there are objective reasons, for instance lack of direct ways of communication. The diplomat said the direct trade turnover reaches about $9 million, while through third states, such as Russia, Georgia, Iran and European countries - $300 million.

Armenia mainly imports metal and grain, exporting jewelry, brandy, as well as stone carving equipment to Kazakhstan, Bozzhigitov said during the Wednesday press conference in Yerevan.

Asked whether Kazakhstan might become a mediator or protector of Armenia’s interests in Muslim organizations, envoy said cooperation on certain issues is possible.

“However, Kazakhstan pursues policy of neutrality in the Caucasus,” Ambassador added.

He recalled that Kazakhstan has a large, approximately 25,000-member Armenian community, while unofficial sources say it totals 100,000. There are Armenian cultural centers in 11 largest cities of Kazakhstan, he added.
