The Israeli defense ministry has ordered about $200 million worth of modern aviation ammunition from the Elbit Systems defense company—and as part of the military operations against Iran.
The company's statement noted that Elbit Systems is a technological leader in aviation weapons and is proud of its long-standing cooperation with the Israeli defense ministry. According to company representatives, the ammunition they produce is one of the key factors that can ensure the superiority of the Israeli Air Force in the sky.
The Israeli defense ministry explained that the aforesaid deal aims to strengthen independence in the weapons sector and increase readiness for immediate combat scenarios and an intensive decade of security, Haaretz reports.
Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that this agreement is part of a strategy to strengthen Israel's self-sufficiency in the supply of ammunition.
Amid these purchases military, however, international calls for an arms embargo on Israel continue due to its war in the Gaza Strip. According to the Gaza health ministry, 72,652 people have been killed and another 172,320 injured as a result of Israeli strikes on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
