YEREVAN. - By arresting former commander of Artsakh Defense Army, Artsakh hero Samvel Babayan, the Armenian authorities prevented the process of turning into reality the threat of  making the entire republic a [seized] police station.

MP of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Samvel Mikoyan, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.

“On different occasions, Samvel Babayan said he isn’t engaged in party, electoral, campaign and political activity. Now tell me please how can one be politically persecuted if he isn’t engaged in politics? They say he is a shadow figure…We are public political figures and don’t understand shadow political activity. And, most importantly, Samvel Babayan was trying to realize the threats to launch a post-election process and turn the entire republic into a police station, which you are well aware of,” he noted. 

Asked whether this means that Babayan posed a threat to the authorities, Nikoyan said: “To the security of our state? Don’t you reason why that weaponry could have been imported?”

Referring to the official statement of Samvel Babayan on not confessing to the charges brought against him, Mikoyan said: “What else should have the attorney said? The litigation will start and you will yourself make sure.”

The MP also insisted that Babayan has personally stated about post-electoral unrest.
