The ex-president of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev was placed in a pre-trial detention center of the State Committee for National Security until August 26, his lawyer Sergey Slesarev told RIA Novosti.

According to him, the judge urgently held a retreat at the State Committee for National Security and chose a preventive measure.

Atambayev was reportedly charged with the unlawful release of criminal authority Aziz Batukaev.

As reported earlier, Kyrgyz ex-president Almazbek Atambayev was detained on Thursday, Intrefax reported.

Security forces made another attempt to storm his residence in the village of Koi Tash near Bishkek on Thursday. A special forces vehicle was ramming the gates, and shooting was heard near the residence.

According to eyewitnesses, special equipment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, water cannons and ramming machines arrived at the scene. Atambayev’s supporters were forced out of the mansion’s territory.
