YEREVAN. – The demonstrators, who are protesting against the operation of the Amulsar gold mine of Armenia, on Thursday called on the government members not to hide behind police.

As reported earlier, a protest is staged outside the government building, and against the operation of the aforesaid mine.

Yura Ivanyan, head of the investigative team on the case of deliberate concealment of data on the exploitation of the Amulsar mine, told a news conference Wednesday about the results of the respective expertise study.

In his words, the results of the expertise study on the assessment of the possible impact of the operation of the Amulsar mine indicate that there are no paths to transfer—from the mine to the thermal hot springs of Jermuk—the groundwater flow and the contamination.

Also, the study had found no data on the intentional concealment of information regarding environmental damage during the operation of this mine.

The protesters, however, are publicizing excerpts from documents that attest to otherwise.

The entrance to the government building is surrounded by police.

Prime Minister’s assistant Nairi Sargsyan came out of the government building to meet these protesters, and said he stands ready to hand the respective package of documents over.

But the picketers want to meet with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
