YEREVAN. – It was to be expected that the Istanbul Convention will not be on the agenda of the National Assembly (NA) soon. Lilit Makunts, head of the majority My Step faction in the NA of Armenia, on Wednesday told this to reporters, and referring to Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan’s statement that the matter of ratifying this convention will not enter the parliament floor this year.

“At least if we recall with what procedure the convention shall go through, it was assumed that it shall be such because if the Ministry [of Justice] has sent to the Venice Commission [a request for its view on this matter], time is needed that a response will come from them,” she said. “Then it shall be in the Constitutional Court in a mandatory procedure, and [only] then will it appear on the NA agenda.”
