YEREVAN. – Armenia’s diplomatic corps in fact has not changed much after the velvet revolution, leader of Bright Armenia party Edmon Marukyan said.
His remark came during the meeting with participants of the annual conference of the heads of the General Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the heads of the country’s diplomatic missions abroad.
According to him, in the past Armenia managed to record achievements, but over last 18 months the new authorities failed to achieve any success.
He recalled that before the revolution, Armenia was the only country in the CSTO that worked closely with NATO. In addition, as the deputy noted, Armenia is the only country in the Eurasian Economic Union which signed an agreement on expanded partnership with the European Union.
“You say that we are a democratic state. So what reforms have you carried out over the past year and a half? At the moment there is nothing. We can tell how the revolution took place. But what has been done on implementing reforms? ”Marukyan complained.
He emphasized that, according to the Constitution of Armenia, the government is developing and implementing foreign policy. However, there are problems with the stated priorities in the country's foreign policy.
Speaking about the problems of parliamentary diplomacy, the opposition deputy noted that in all formats, whether it is the Collective Security Treaty Organization, PACE, NATO or Euronest, Armenian parliamentarians are in “active wait mode”.
