Propagandizing non-traditional sexual orientation among citizens under 16 must be prosecuted by law. This is what deputy of the Prosperous Armenia Party Gevorg Petrosyan declared during a discussion on the bill on supplements to the Criminal Code of Armenia during the session of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia today.

According to him, the bill envisages punishing propagation of non-traditional sexual orientation among citizens under 16 through materials, pictures, releases, comments, offers for membership, etc. in the amount of 200-fold of the minimum salary or at least by imprisonment for a term of one year.

“If this crime is committed by an official, parent, adopter, foster parent, other legal representative or guardian of a child or a group of people in agreement, at educational, athletic and youth organizations and resorts, for mercenary purposes, it will be punished in the amount of 400-fold of the minimum salary or arrest for a maximum of two years,” Petrosyan explained. The deputy spoke rather sentimentally and did everything he could to convince his colleagues that this phenomenon must be extirpated in Armenian society which is a bearer of “Christian culture” and in which such phenomena are unacceptable.
