YEREVAN. – One out of every four or five couples in Armenia suffers from primary or secondary infertility, gynecologist Arman Sahakyan stated during a press conference on Saturday.

He stressed that those in Armenia who were born in the 1990s will become pregnant now, and they will have problems concerning complicated pregnancies.

In Sahakyan’s words, infertility caused by infectious inflammatory disorders and stress has increased among Armenia’s men.

He also stressed that, now, more Armenian couples are applying to physicians in advance, and the mothers likewise have become consistent with respect to their daughters.

And in regards to curing infertility, the most expensive non-surgical intervention starts from AMD 950,000 (approx. US$ 2,280) in the country.

In her turn, psychologist Siranush Andreasyan noted that there still are stereotypes in Armenia, according to which mostly women have infertility problems.

“Our society is going toward the European society, but, on the other hand, it is accepted among our society that children are raised with taboos. As a result, secret sexual relations usually bring forth a variety of problems,” said Andreasyan, and added that primarily women turn to a psychologist in Armenia.
