YEREVAN. – For the first time, the Armenian National Statistical Service issued the list of the most frequent surnames of Armenia’s newborns, according to gender (2012). 

Accordingly, the family name Grigoryan is in first place among baby girls and baby boys, alike.

Among boys, Grigoryan is followed by Sargsyan and Harutyunyan last name, whereas among girls, by Hovhannisyan and Sargsyan.

The Hakobyan, Khachatryan, Vardanyan, Gevorgyan, and Karapetyan surnames likewise are among the top ten. 

And from among the 46 most common family names in Armenia, Antonyan and Tovmasyan are less frequent.
