Enver Akin, who is the father of German-born Turkish director Fatih Akin, announced that he liked his son’s movie, “The Cut,” which has caused quite a stir in Turkey.

Fatih Akin’s father, who is a member of Turkey’s Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), said he liked the film and sees no reason no to screen it in Turkey, reported Hürriyet daily of Turkey.

According to him, there is a wrong view that in the movie the Turks are portrayed as barbarians and murderers.

“The film shows murderers and women’s rapists, army deserters and gangs, but there is no systematic massacre in the film.

“There are distressing scenes in the movie, but no attempt is made to present the Turks as genocidal,” Enver Akin said.

The Cut, which  is a movie about the Armenian Genocide, was screened at the 71st Venice Film Festival, and it is expected to win major awards.

This film is planned be shown in Turkey, too, but the Turkish nationalists have threatened to kill Fatih Akin.
