The former chief of police intelligence of Turkey, Ramazan Akyurek, has been detained along the lines of the murder of journalist Hrant Dink, the founder and chief editor of Agos Armenian bilingual weekly of Istanbul, who was shot dead on January 19, 2007 outside the office of his weekly.

Akyurek was detained in capital city Ankara and transferred to Istanbul, reported Milliyet daily of Turkey.

The prosecutor examining the murder case had made the decision on detaining the former senior police officer.

In October 2014, the Turkish Ministry of Justice had approved the filing of lawsuits against nine state officials, including Ramazan Akyurek, who had held important positions at the time of Hrant Dink’s murder.
