YEREVAN. – The Armenian exporters will continue to have problems in Russia because of the exchange rate, said economist Vilen Khachatryan, at a press conference on Tuesday.

In his words, amid the falling ruble, the Central Bank of Russia is attempting to run a countercyclical policy to neutralize the speculative trends.

“Nonetheless, the coming weeks will be the most active period in Russia for the payment of the state debt,” noted Khachatryan.

And an increased demand for the dollar, as per the economist, means a decline in the exchange rate of the Russian ruble.

“For Armenia, this means export problems toward Russia,” stressed Vilen Khachatryan. “The lower the exchange rate of the Russian currency is, the Armenian goods calculated with it become that much more expensive.”
