YEREVAN. – Azerbaijan, enjoying the support of Turkey, is making efforts to fabricate its own “genocide,” and attempting to portray itself before the international community as a victim.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia (RA), Shavarsh Kocharyan, on Friday stated the aforementioned at experts’ forum entitled “I remember and demand,” and which is convened within the framework of the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations.

“We [i.e. the Armenian side] want to draw the attention of the international community to the thing that this discredits the international efforts to prevent genocides, and distorts the concept of ‘genocide,’” stressed Kocharyan.

In the Armenian deputy FM’s words, fight against genocide denial is the main component of genocide prevention.

In Kocharyan’s conviction, the supporters of genocide denial make use of the European Convention on Human Rights.

“Under these conditions, the relevant bodies of Armenia are working not to permit new crimes against humanity under the guise of protection of human rights,” said Shavarsh Kocharyan. “The RA MFA [i.e. the Ministry of Foreign Affairs] is carrying out consistent work to neutralize the steps of [Armenian Genocide] denial of Turkey.”
