Turkey, by shooting down the Russian Su-24 plane, dealt a blow to NATO itself, and this is a very irresponsible move, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told Time magazine.

In his words, had such an incident happened in the Soviet era, a major conflict would probably have risen, according to RIA Novosti news agency of Russia.

Also, Medvedev noted that a lot depends on the NATO leaders’ resolve to have some bearing on the most concerned members of this alliance, since these countries provoke conflicts with other countries.

On November 24, 2015, the Turkish air force shot down a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft/interdictor nearby the Turkish-Syrian border. The warplane was taking part in the antiterrorism operations in Syria. This incident led to the ongoing strain in Turkey-Russia relations.
