YEREVAN. – Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan on Tuesday met with Natalia Vutova, Head of the Council of Europe (CoE) Office in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.

Press Office of the Government of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that the PM assessed Armenia-CoE cooperation as productive, and underscored this organization’s assistance in the ongoing democratic reforms in the country. He added that Armenia is an active member of the CoE.

Vutova, for her part, expressed satisfaction with the CoE’s collaboration with the Armenian authorities and the government and with Armenia’s proper representation in the CoE structures, and noted that there are good opportunities to develop this collaboration. Head of the CoE Yerevan office stressed that effective cooperation has been established between the office and the Armenian state-run institutions, and added that the CoE stands ready to continue assisting in the ongoing reforms in Armenia. 

Furthermore, the interlocutors considered the Armenia-Council of Europe Action Plans to be an important tool for bilateral cooperation.

Also, the parties reflected on Armenia’s constitutional amendments, which passed through a referendum on December 6, 2015. In this connection, Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the parliamentary system of governance—which these amendments have specified—will contribute to the democratic development of Armenia. Natalia Vutova, in turn, stressed that the CoE will continue providing respective expertise assistance.

In addition, the parties exchanged views on collaboration within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
