The Iran nuclear deal was controversial for certain U.S. politicians.

Head of the NATO Liaison Office in the South Caucasus, Ambassador William Lahue, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.

In his words, it is unknown whether the new U.S. President Donald Trump will make a step back in the talks over the Iran nuclear program. What Trump said during the presidential campaign may significantly differ from what he will do in the post of the president; nobody yet knows what to expect, Lahue noted.

Touching on the possible changes in the relations between Russia and U.S. in the period of Trump’s presidency, the Ambassador noted that it is important not to exaggerate how much things can change. According to him, the U.S. has very strong institutions, which significantly impact the foreign policy of the country. The president doesn’t decide the U.S. foreign policy on his own. Therefore, there are other players here too, Lahue added.

Thus, when serious issues, such as the relations with Russia and Iran are touched on, we hope for their improvement, he said.

During the election campaign, president-elect Donald Trump stated that the conclusion of the nuclear deal with the Iranian government was a shame for Washington.
