Turkish nationalists have disseminated inaccurate information regarding a mausoleum in Turkey’s Tunceli (Dersim) Province.

Several days ago, the nationalist Sözcü newspaper of Turkey ran news alleging that a monument dedicated to the leaders of ASALA (Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia) was erected in Dersim.

This news caused a stir, whereupon the Turkish nationalists launched a campaign, and demanded from the Tunceli governor to remove this monument. The provincial governor, in turn, announced that a decision was made for the demolition of this monument.

To note, however, this mausoleum is actually devoted to Armenak Bakırcıyan, an Armenian official of the TKP-ML (Communist Party of Turkey-Marxist Leninist) TİKKO.

The names of slain Istanbul-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink’s as well as renowned Armenian military commanders Kevork Chavush, Monte Melkonian, and Andranik Ozanian are also written on this mausoleum.

Bakırcıyan had helped remaining Armenians in Eastern Anatolia move to Istanbul, and he had met with Dink.
