U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for secretary of state and the former CEO of Exxon Mobil Corp.,  Rex Tillerson will urge Russia and the United States to engage in open and frank dialogue to repair bilateral relations. U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team spread the information that Tillerson is going to deliver such a speech at hearings in the senate, BBC reported.

On January 11, the Senate will hold hearings during which Tillerson's candidacy for the post of head of the State Department will be discussed.

illerson intends to address the US relationship with Moscow head on in his opening remarks.

"We must also be clear-eyed about our relationship with Russia," Tillerson will say. "Russia today poses a danger, but it is not unpredictable in advancing its own interests."

 Tillerson will also speak to NATO's concerns about Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Our NATO allies are right to be alarmed at a resurgent Russia," Tillerson will say. "But it was in the absence of American leadership that this door was left open and unintended signals were sent."
