US President-elect Donald Trump will suggest to cancel sanctions imposed against Russia, demanding in return from Vladimir Putin to sign an agreement on the reduction of nuclear arms, Trump said in an interview with The Times.

The Kremlin said, that it will not comment on these statements, as long as the US president has not assumed his powers. On Sunday, in an interview published on the Internet, Trump criticized the former US foreign policy, calling the penetration to Iraq perhaps the deepest blunder in the US history and comparing it with throwing a stone at a beehive.

On the eve of his presidency, Trump said, that there is a prospect in 2010 to make the first serious step in controlling nuclear weapons with Russia, after signing the contract on strategic arms’ reduction. " They have sanctions on Russia — let's see if we can make some good deal with Russia, " said Trump in his interview.

“For one thing, I think nuclear weapons should be way down and reduced very substantially.” At the same time, sanctions aren’t affecting Russia well, [and] “something can happen that a lot of people are going to benefit,” he added.
