A group of Armenian attorneys and human rights defenders have submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) several complaints with respect to the Azerbaijani armed forces’ violation of the rights of the civilian population and military servicemen of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) during the military actions, from April 2 to 5, 2016, which began as a result of Azerbaijan’s violation of the ceasefire along the Karabakh-Azerbaijani border.

These attorneys and human rights defenders expect the ECtHR, as an international mechanism for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, to record the fact of the violation of rights, in which case Azerbaijan will be obligated to provide fair compensation to the victims whose rights have been violated, and, subsequently, to create and run investigation mechanisms for all violations of human rights during the aforesaid military actions, to find those accountable for these violations and subject them to just punishment, and to end its discriminatory state policy based on nationality.
