The government of Germany will not follow the U.S. calls for sharp increase in the defense budget, Germany FM Zigmar Gabriel announced, reports DW.

During the Munich conference, Gabriel warned that NATO countries should not follow new U.S. Administration’s “temptation of arms race” and added that the increase in military spending will not make the world more secure.

Germany FM also said, that he understands the expectations of Washington that urged Europeans to be more active. However, according to him, one should not expect Europe’s activity, if there is a risk of EU collapse.
