Talks on Syria in Astana paved way for further talks in Geneva and set up a mechanism for monitoring ceasefire, president of Russia Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbaev, RIA Novosti reported.
The talks [on Syria in Astana] are concluded, by the way with unexpected result, Putin added.
“The most important in particular was creation of a mechanism for monitoring the ceasefire, the main fundament that made the further talks on Geneva possible,” said Putin.
Putin expressed his gratitude to Nazarbaev for organizing the talks on Syria in Astana.
