YEREVAN. – The “Survey for Seismic Protection” Agency of Armenia recorded a magnitude-3.9 earthquake in the country, on Tuesday at 10:17am local time.

The epicenter of the tremor was 5 km northwest of Kapan town, the hypocenter of this quake was 10 km beneath the surface.

The seismic activity measured magnitude 5, at the epicenter.

The earthquake was felt in Kapan, where it measured magnitude 5, and in Goris and Kajaran towns, where it measured magnitude 4-5.

In addition, a magnitude-3.3 aftershock was registered.

But no casualties, injuries, or major devastation have been reported in Kapan and Goris.

“We evacuated all children from the facilities; there were aftershocks,” Mayor of Kapan, Ashot Hayrapetyan, told Armenian News-NEWS.am. “Now, the classes are held as normal.”

Mayor of Goris, Vachagan Adunts, however, noted that even though there were no aftershocks at present, they had decided to send the schoolchildren home.

“Classes have been temporarily suspended,” he stated.
