President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that a referendum may be conducted with respect to the expediency of the continuation of Turkey’s EU membership negotiations, according to NTV television of the country
“After the referendum on April 16, we [i.e. Turkey] may hold a referendum on continuing the EU membership talks,” he said.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had stated that if the EU did not set a visa-free regime for the country’s citizens, the deals with the EU, including Turkey receiving migrants, will be under a risk.
