Russia and Iran are ready to expand cooperation in Central Asia and the Caucasus, reads the joint announcement the two leaders, adopted based on the results of the talks, reported RIA Novosti.

"The parties expressed readiness to expand cooperation in political, economic and other areas in Central Asia and the Caucasus and are willing to cooperate multilaterally, with other countries of the region, to strengthen peace and stability," the document reads.

At the same time, Russia has confirmed its support for Iran’s application for the status in SCO and said, that they tend to consider the request as soon as possible.
