Hundreds of protesters demanded release of the detained Catalonian officials in connection with independence referendum which is set for October 1.

The action is staged in the northeastern town of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, similar protest was held in Barcelona.

The civil group of the Catalonian national assembly called to continue the protests until the officials are freed.

The government of Spain said the referendum is illegal and inconsistent with the Constitution
