Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat told reporters that police had arrested eight Maltese nationals over the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, BBC reported.

Caruana Galizia was killed close to her home on 16 October when the car she was driving exploded shortly after she left her home.

Two weeks before the death, Caruana Galizia filed a complaint to the police to say she had received threats.

The journalist accused Muscat and his wife of having link to an offshore company in Panama, connected with the Azerbaijani president’s daughter.

Daphne Caruana Galicia took part in the publication of the Panama Papers, which provides information concerning the offshore companies’ owners from all over the world.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange tweeted that he was offering a 20,000 euro award for information about journalist’s killing.
