YEREVAN. – Membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and signing of an agreement with the European Union (EU) creates a unique status for Armenia, said Japanese Ambassador Eiji Taguchi, at a press conference on Monday.

Congratulating Armenia on the recent signing of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement with the EU,  he noted that last week by the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe a joint statement was made by which they welcomed the finalization of the negotiations of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the European Union and Japan.

“This is another commonality,” he added. “Japan and Armenia can [now] carry out closer cooperation by way of the EU.”

At the same time, Ambassador Taguchi pointed to Armenia’s membership in the EAEU—which also comprises Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and stressed that Russia is a very important partner of Japan.
