YEREVAN. – The agreement between the governments of Armenia and Tajikistan on mutual visits envisages that the citizens of the two countries may enter each other’s country without visas.

Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan on Monday noted the aforesaid, as he introduced the respective draft agreement at the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia.

In his words, under this accord, Armenian and Tajik citizens can stay in one another’s country for no more than 90 days within half a year, if the given country does not set a more favorable respective procedure.

“An agreement that exempts from visas is in effect in the CIS countries, ever since 1992,” stressed Kocharyan. “But there has long been a process that all countries are signing bilateral agreements.

“At this moment, there have remained only three [CIS] countries with whom there are no such agreements yet; one is Tajikistan.

“We [Armenia] have a [similar] program with Uzbekistan, and we are planning to launch a corresponding process with Kyrgyzstan.”

The NA voting on the aforesaid Armenia-Tajikistan agreement will take place Tuesday morning.
