Italy will pay maximum attention to the crisis in Ukraine and the so-called protracted conflicts in the OSCE area - in Nagorno-Karabakh, Transnistria, Georgia, OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Angelino Alfano said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to him, the search for solution to the Ukrainian crisis will be a priority.

“As OSCE Chairman-in-Office, I will visit Ukraine from January 30 to 31 and Moscow on February 1 and will have contacts with members of the OSCE special monitoring mission in eastern Ukraine, a mission that plays a key role in preventing the risks of a new escalation, and which Italy firmly supports, including through the significant presence of observers,” he said.

Italy’s other priority is to attract more attention to the challenges coming from the Mediterranean, as they are convinced that the Mediterranean dimension is a complement, not an alternative to the OSCE's Euro-Asian dimension.

“We already voiced this message in October last year at the OSCE Mediterranean Conference, held in Palermo,” said minister adding that Italy intends to intensify three dimensions on which the OSCE's comprehensive security concept is based: military-political, economic-environmental and human.
