Arab Yakob Mohammed Abdulqawi Al-Batali, who is accused of attempting to illegally cross the Armenian-Turkish border, has been sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment in Armenia.

According to the indictment, Al-Batali arrived in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan from the United Arab Emirates on February 16, and to head to Europe for permanent residence there. And on April 26, at around 11:35pm, he attempted to unlawfully cross the Armenian border toward Turkey through the Araks River, and without the specified documentation. But he was apprehended by the Russian border guards in Armenia.

An Armenian court has found the 38-year-old Arab guilty under the Criminal Code, and has sentenced him to nine months in prison.
