The new authorities of Armenia first do, then think, political analyst Suren Zolyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am, commenting on the frequent statements by Baku about the possibility of joining the CSTO and the situation around the organization’s Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov.

“It’s not a secret that Azerbaijan has close military-technical cooperation with Belarus and Russia, as well as warm relations with Kazakhstan. The only problem is that Azerbaijan, not being a member of the CSTO, is buying weapons at export prices, but I do not think that this issue is so fundamental. On the other hand, the position of Azerbaijan has always been not to enter into any European organizations, therefore, all this is connected more likely with the  approaches of opinions not even within the country, but among the CSTO member countries, ”he said.  At the same time, Zolyan noted that he does not consider that Baku will apply for membership in the CSTO. If Azerbaijan decides to take this step, then the question will be about observer status.

According to him, the new authorities of Armenia do not have a clear foreign policy course. "This is also confirmed by the fact that no agreements were signed during this period, there were no stated goals," he noted.

Speaking about the agreements of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the margins of the summit of the CIS Council in Dushanbe, Zolyan noted that it is impossible to talk about reaching agreements in two minutes.

This is all PR, not real diplomacy,” he concluded.
