YEREVAN. – Seventy years after the adoption of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, some accomplishments can be recorded in human rights.

Adama Dieng, United Nations Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, on Monday stated about the above-said at the Second Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide, and which has kicked off in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

He noted, however, that the genocides in recent decades attest to the fact that there still are some difficulties in this regard.

The UN representative said not solely religious and ethnic tension has increased, but its manifestations have become worse, too.

Dieng stated that this phenomenon needs to be fought against through education, first and foremost.

In conclusion, Adama Dieng said intolerance towards diversity was at the core of most conflicts.
