After the appointment of a new secretary general, the effectiveness of the CSTO should increase, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin told reporters on Tuesday.

According to him, Russia's position on this issue stems from the basic interest of strengthening the organization, as well as strengthening the deal between member states.

“However, I want to remind you that I do not represent Russia in the CSTO,” Kopyrkin noted.

He noted that Russia is interested in resolving this issue without causing any damage to the effectiveness of the organization.

“Rather, it should grow stronger, including the improvement of legal issues, clarification of ambiguities on certain issues. As for the new secretary general, this issue is being resolved at the level of the leaders,” the Russian diplomat added.
