On the morning of 18 March, the delegation led by Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, which is on an official visit to Germany from 18 to 21 March, had a meeting with the vice-president and members of the House of Representatives of Berlin, reported the news service of the National Assembly of Armenia, according to NEWS.am.

During the meeting, Ararat Mirzoyan presented the changes that took place in Armenia and the agenda for the upcoming reforms once again.

The members of the delegation exchanged information on several sectors related to law-making. Among other issues, Mirzoyan and his counterparts also discussed the inclusion of didactic materials devoted to the Armenian Genocide in the school textbooks in Berlin.

During a working lunch, the Armenian delegation met with Head of the Germany-South Caucasus Friendship Group Johannes Kahrs and members of the Group. The representatives of the German party stated that the situation following the velvet revolution in Armenia sparked more interest of the deputies of the Bundestag in Armenia, and the visit of German Chancellor Angela Merkel also contributed to that.

During the conversation, Ararat Mirzoyan reaffirmed Armenia’s foreign policy priorities once again, stating that ratification of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement by EU member states (this will be discussed by the Parliament of Germany by the second reading on 4 April) plays a major role in the context of deepening of relations with the European Union.

MP Ruben Rubinyan touched upon the Karabakh issue, presenting the position of the Republic of Armenia on the created situation and reaffirming Armenia’s position on the peaceful settlement of the conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

Talking about the settlement of the conflict, MP Edmon Marukyan underlined the importance of democratization in the South Caucasus and voiced hope that his German counterparts would be more focused on the violations of human rights in Azerbaijan.

Touching upon the opportunities for the deepening of economic ties between the two countries, the MPs presented the economic reforms that will be made in Armenia and will make Armenia more attractive.

After the working lunch, the delegation led by Ararat Mirzoyan laid flowers near the Armenian Genocide memorial.
