Two thirds of antivirus applications for Android did not provide any protection for devices, Engadget reported.

According to the report, 250 anti-virus programs participated in the check. Only 80 of them met the minimum security requirements (many of them were products of well-known companies, such as McAfee, Avast, Symantec, Trend Micro and others).

Experts say that inefficient applications either do not protect the device, or use questionable detection mechanisms. They often use the principle of “white list”, that is, all applications or pages are considered dangerous, except for those that appear in it. Such antiviruses could be deceived by faking the domain name under a known address.

The report also clarifies that such applications differ in template interfaces. They are sure that the main goal of non-working antiviruses is to bring easy income to creators, and not to protect users.
