Turkish military formations in the area of Nakhichevan will not obtain the status of a military base. This is what Turkologist Karen Hovhannisyan said during a March 20 press conference.

According to him, this is first and foremost linked to the fact that Turkey and Russia are on good terms. “If Turkey establishes a military base in Nakhichevan while being a NATO member state, it will do it to counter the Russian military base in Armenia. However, it won’t do it in the near future, taking into consideration the level of bilateral relations between Moscow and Ankara,” he stated.

The analyst also says those forces might be used by Azerbaijani armed forces in case of a conflict with Armenia.
