It’s a shame when the person holding the office of Prime Minister of Armenia doesn’t know the history of his people, and what’s more, he distorts it. This is what Spokesperson of the Republican Party of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov wrote on his Facebook page.

He particularly stated the following:

“Mr. Pashinyan, Nagorno-Karabakh declared its independence from Soviet Azerbaijan in 1988.

On February 20, 1988, during the session of the Regional Council of People’s Deputies of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast, the Council adopted a decision on petitioning to the Supreme Councils of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Azerbaijan and of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic to remove the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast from the composition of Azerbaijan and include it in the composition of Armenia.

On July 12, 1988, during its session, the Regional Council of People’s Deputies of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast decided to exit the Soviet Socialist Republic of Azerbaijan and declare the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast as the Armenian autonomous republic of Artsakh.

I would like to let Pashinyan know that Artsakh exited Soviet Azerbaijan in 1988, not on September 2, 1991.

Instead of posting brief statuses on Facebook, it wouldn’t hurt the Prime Minister of the country to learn the history of his people.

Today, September 2, marks the 28th anniversary of the day of adoption of the declaration of independence of Artsakh, the logical climax of which was the referendum of December 10, 1991 by which Artsakh declared its independence from the former USSR.”
