The authorities of North Korea and the Republic of Korea can create an economic union like the EU in the next 10-15 years, special adviser to the President of the Republic of Korea on diplomacy and national security issues told TASS.

It will take a lot of time for national unification - the North is essentially different from South Korea, and there is an ambiguous situation in the relations of North Korea with China and the US, he added.

According to the presidential adviser, in order to unite the Korean nation, first of all, it is necessary to create a reliable and effective regular mechanism of constant contacts at the highest level, as well as formats for inter-parliamentary and inter-ministerial exchanges between Pyongyang and Seoul.

There is an idea to form the so-called Korean Federation, in which two government systems and two systems will coexist - the capitalist and the socialist. This form of statehood does not suit Seoul, he said.

He explained that at the initial stage of unification with the North, the South Korean authorities intend to maintain the existence of one people in two states, two political systems and two independent governments, as well as simultaneously increase cooperation, stimulate the free circulation of the flow of people and goods between the North Kora and the Republic of Korea, through economic integration, ensure mutual development by analogy with the EU, and only then gradually unite the two countries for real.
