Propaganda of non-traditional sexual orientations among persons under sixteen must be prosecuted, as this poses a serious threat to our society and security, said Prosperous Armenia party MP Gevorg Petrosyan during a meeting of the Permanent Parliamentary Committee on State and Legal Issues, during the discussion of the bill on introducing amendments to the Criminal Code of Armenia.

The draft law provides that propaganda of non-traditional sexual orientation among people under the age of sixteen by distributing materials, images, publications, comments, suggestions to participate, encouraging participation or engaging in this kind of relationship, an attempt to develop interest in this, and also the distribution of relevant materials via the Internet and other mass media will be punishable by a fine of 200 times the minimum wage or by arrest for a year. Moreover, if such a crime is committed by an official, parent, adoptive parent, guardian, other legal representative or parent of a child, a group of persons in preliminary conspiracy, in educational, cultural, sports and youth institutions, as well as in sanatoria, with self-serving motives, they will be punished by a fine of 400 times the minimum wage or by arrest for a maximum of two years.

Nevertheless, the bill was not included in the agenda. Earlier, the bill received a negative opinion of the Permanent Parliamentary Committee on State and Legal Affairs.
