Supporters of the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, hold a rally action near the residences of Kentron and Nork-Marash of the court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan.

The protesters demand that the Constitutional Court’s decision be immediately implemented and Robert Kocharyan be released.

According to the lawyer Vahe Yeprikyan, the court of the first instance should immediately hold a meeting and, as a matter of priority, consider the issue of preventive measures against the former president.

The logic of today's action is that the Constitutional Court earlier recognized article 35 of the Code of Criminal Procedure as not complying with the Constitution, which implies that criminal prosecution against Robert Kocharyan is unacceptable. Thus, proceeding from the requirements of the European Convention on Human Rights, national legislation, as well as case law established by the Court of Cassation, Judge Anna Danibekyan, to whom the case is referred, should immediately hold a meeting and consider the preventive measure against Robert Kocharian, and no doubt that he should be released. The lawyer noted that the action is peaceful.

The court hearing is scheduled for September 12.
