YEREVAN. – Members of the “Amulsar Without Mine” initiative, a movement that is opposing operation of Amulsar gold mine, presented their demands during a rally at Liberty Square in downtown Yerevan.

The activists called to stop ignoring demand of the people and to stop comparing it with the demand of a group of individuals who are direct beneficiaries of the project.  They urged to recognize Lydian company’s expert conclusions as invalid, to take into account the fact that many environmental factors were ignored in their documents, to examine the details of the permission issued under the previous authorities and to identify all crimes and corruption cases.

Members of the initiative demand that Lydian should withdraw equipment from the territory of Amulsar.

They believe that Lydian’s activities in Armenia are illegal, as they are violating the principles of the law on environmental impact and provisions of the RA Code on Bowels, the law on Lake Sevan and other laws.

The protesters expect the government to respond within a reasonable timeframe and urge authorities to solve this problem and thereby prevent mass protests both in Yerevan and in other parts of Armenia.

“The power belongs to the people, and every second we are ready to demonstrate our strength, our determination in the name of Powerful Armenia,” the statement says.

Members of the initiative welcomed activists who held protests in Jermuk.
