Armenians will become ethnic minority in Javakhk in case more Turks settle in the region, said Artak Gabrielyan, chairman of “A-info” union.

Turks, who are mainly engaged in trade, are buying lands and houses in the territory of Javakhk. Influx of Turkish immigrants is first of all conditioned by opening of the Georgian-Turkish border, he added.

Javakhk (Georgian name – Javakheti) is an Armenian-populated part of Georgia’s southeastern Samtskhe-Javakheti province.

Gabrielyan noted 200,000 Armenians are residing in Javakhk, while another 600,000 natives of this territory live in Armenia.
